Nettuno and ActionAid to ensure access to water and food safety in Somaliland

A firm commitment for a more just and sustainable future

In a world where social inequalities and the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident, we believe every company can, and must, do its part. Based on this conviction, we support ActionAid, one of the main non-governmental organisations committed to fighting poverty and social exclusion.

Hygiene and care have always been the primary objectives of our everyday work. For this reason, we have chosen to contribute to the initiative “Ensuring access to drinking water and increasing food safety”, a key initiative involving 16 villages in the Gabiley and Hawd districts of the Maroodijeh region of Somaliland.

The humanitarian crisis is chronic in this area: drought, malnutrition, outbreaks of disease and conflict make it increasingly difficult for the most vulnerable of the population to survive. The ActionAid initiative, co-financed by an Italian institutional body and also made possible thanks to the contribution of Nettuno, aims to improve access to water resources and food safety in a structural manner.

What the initiative entails

• Construction of 15 concrete tanks and 8 earth dams to reduce long distances travelled by women and children for water supply.
• Training for local committees on sustainable water management.
• Raising awareness of good health and hygiene practices.
• Empowerment of communities through a participatory and inclusive approach.

Over 25,000 people will benefit directly from this intervention, including more than 12,000 children and over 4,000 women.

For us at Nettuno, this is just the beginning of a far-reaching path. We believe that every little contribution can bring about great change. And we will continue to work so that our business choices always positively reflect on collective well-being.
